How we choose and
check products

Matcha Spot recommends matcha, teaware and equipment in its buying guides and on its city pages. This page explains how those products are picked, how each link is checked, and how we make money from them.

How we make money

As an Amazon Associate, Matcha Spot earns from qualifying purchases. If you buy through an Amazon link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The café listings in our city guides are not affiliate links and are not paid for.

Some products are linked to the brand's own website instead of Amazon. We earn nothing from those links, and they are marked on the page.

How each link is chosen

Every product link on the site is one of three kinds.

A specific Amazon product

Used only when Amazon's product data confirms the exact item and that it can be bought. We accept a listing that is in stock, or one sold by Amazon.com even when stock is limited. We reject third-party listings with limited stock, pre-orders, out-of-stock or unavailable listings, and look-alike or counterfeit listings. If the product we wrote about is gone, we link its successor or a close replacement and say so on the page.

An Amazon search, shown as "Price varies"

Used for general product types (a sifter, a canister), for products that are not sold on Amazon, and for anything whose listing failed the stock rules above. The search is checked for relevant results.

The brand's own website

Used when Amazon only has look-alikes or unreliable sellers but the brand sells directly. We open the brand's page to confirm it sells the product before linking. We earn nothing from these links.

What the prices mean

Prices on product cards come from Amazon's product data on the date shown on each page ("Prices checked on…"), rounded to the nearest dollar. Prices change often, so the price on Amazon when you click may differ. We do not publish a price we have not checked; where we cannot, the card says "Price varies".

What we check in the writing

When we check a page's links, we also read its text against the product listings. We correct product names, sizes and specifications, and remove claims we cannot verify, such as unsupported health or study figures and "bestseller" style claims.

How often we re-check

We re-check every product link about once a month to catch listings that have gone out of stock or disappeared. The date on each page shows the last check.

Spotted something wrong?

If a link is broken, a product has changed or a price is badly out of date, tell us which page and we will fix it.
