Frankfurt's matcha scene grew up fast. For years the only serious address was IIMORI, the Japanese patisserie on Braubachstraße that has been serving matcha lattes and matcha cakes to the Altstadt since long before the trend arrived. Then came a wave: specialty coffee bars that treat matcha as seriously as their espresso, and in March 2026 a dedicated matcha shop, OddRealm Tea, which grew out of a pop-up into a permanent bar on Fahrgasse. The five below cover the range, from a single-cultivar tasting counter to a Nordend café famous for its cakes. All five are verified open as of September 2026.
Frankfurt's only dedicated matcha bar, and the most interesting place to drink matcha in the city. OddRealm started as a pop-up run by Dominic Gerfelder, his wife Mai Phan and her brother Phong Phan, and opened this permanent shop on Fahrgasse in March 2026. The approach is unusual for Germany: rather than one house matcha, the menu lists four by cultivar or blend, including Kanayamidori, Okumidori and Tsuyuhikari, so you can taste the difference between them side by side. Each can be ordered straight or as a latte. The team also sells the matcha to take home and runs preparation workshops in the shop. Note the short opening days: it is closed Monday and Tuesday.
The original Frankfurt address for matcha, and still the one most locals name first. IIMORI is a Japanese patisserie on the ground floor with a Japanese restaurant upstairs, a short walk from the Römer. The matcha shows up throughout the menu: matcha lattes, matcha pies and matcha ice cream, alongside a cheesecake that has its own following. It is one of the few places in the city that serves matcha in a Japanese setting rather than a specialty coffee one, and the long opening hours, until 21:00 every day, make it the easiest option for an evening matcha in the centre.
A minimalist specialty café near the Hauptwache that has built a reputation for its matcha as much as its coffee. The room is light and spare, with small metal tables, pale wood and big windows, and the menu keeps the matcha options focused: a matcha latte and a matcha tonic, both available hot or iced. The matcha tonic is the one to try if you have only had matcha with milk; it is sharper and more refreshing, and a good test of the matcha itself. The cruffins are the other thing people come for. Closed on Mondays.
A small café at the top of Berger Straße that has been going since 2015 and has a loyal following for its homemade cakes and its flavoured lattes. Matcha sits alongside saffron, cardamom and beetroot on the latte list, and regulars single out the matcha raspberry latte in particular. The cakes and cookies include gluten-free and vegan options. This is a neighbourhood café rather than a matcha specialist, but it is one of the most reliable places in Nordend for a good matcha latte and something sweet, and it is open seven days a week.
A flower boutique and café in one, known locally for its unusual cakes, specialty coffee and a menu of matcha variations. The owners source their matcha through contacts in Japan and their coffee from a small Frankfurt roastery, and the shop pairs both with fresh flowers sold in the same room, which makes it a pleasant stop rather than a quick one. The name means "four to nine" in German, which is why the café opens at 8:56. Closed on Mondays.

Tips for drinking matcha in Frankfurt
- Start at OddRealm — it is the only place in Frankfurt where you can compare matcha cultivars side by side, and it is closed Monday and Tuesday, so plan around it.
- IIMORI covers the evening — open until 21:00 every day, it is the easiest late matcha in the centre, and it is a few minutes on foot from OddRealm.
- Try a matcha tonic — 2b Coffee Studio's iced matcha tonic is the best way to taste the matcha itself rather than the milk.
- Nordend is worth the tram ride — Mellow Yellow and viervorneun are both in Nordend, close enough to do in one afternoon.
- Check Monday closures — three of the five are shut on Mondays, so Monday is the worst day for a matcha tour of Frankfurt.
